CAN YOU E-MAIL THIS TO ALL IN TEXAS

Friends in Ministry and of Ministry –

I have some BAD news.

The Summary of HB 1 by LBB  Eliminates the TDCJ Prison Chaplaincy Program.

Get the message out that Texas Prison Chaplaincy SAVES MONEY, that it will cost more money in canceling it in the long run, and there there is no more effective and proven means of change than Religion in Human History.  This will adversely affect the entire religious base and the volunteer organization, not to mention the thousands of family members helped in times of crisis (the more hidden side of prison chaplaincy).

It is not merely the care for the soul - of whatever faith or race - the staff chaplain handles all of the management of religious affairs and programming.  Since someone would have to manage it all anyway - there is NO COST saving there.  Moreover, if ONE Chaplain prevented ONE inmate from returning, his ENTIRE salary is recovered - though there is much more.  By virtue of the 17,000 volunteers facilitated each year - and the BELIEF that Religion is the GREATEST source of change - the single Chaplaincy Department in Texas is RECOVERS its ENTIRE operating cost MANY times over!  No one handles better the First Amendment protections, the religious grievances, the sophisticated religious policies that ensure fair programming and networking within the local and national religious community.

In litigation savings alone, again cost recovery.

Add to that the almost unseen and hard to track, the essential and precious function of ALL prisons is the death and family connections.  Family members DIE.  If the legislators could contact the tens of thousand families in Texas touched and affected through the Chaplaincy department, it would be secured by those constituents alone!  Many are the poorest!

Pass the word!  The Prison Chaplaincy is the MOST COST-EFFECTIVE program in Texas! Look at the mind-boggling statistics for how so few accomplish so much with so little funding.  Join us here:

Save Texas Prison Chaplaincy  and

The KEY is connecting to your Texas State Senator and Representative.  The least anyone ca<<Selection in Document>>n do is e-mail them that the very thought of such is unproductive - though the facts and vision are in Total Cost Cost Recovery several times over. For my friends out of state – who have friends in Texas – feel free to pass this onto them.  I hope you will voice your opinion.

Sincerely, Michael G. Maness

FOCUS POINT >
ENTIRE COST RECOVERY:

> Don't let them cut Chaplaincy on YOUR watch!

> Save money?? - It will COST more to cut Chaplaincy!

> Yes, Chaplaincy RECOVERS its ENTIRE operating cost SEVERAL times over!

> Chaplaincy's 17,000+ volunteers and the similar numbers of inmate families - NEVER have so few connected with so many for so LITTLE.

> Reduction of Recidivism alone recovers yet again ENTIRE Cost of the few Chaplains.

> In litigation savings alone recover ENTIRE Operating Cost of the few Chaplains.

> Reduction of general violence THROUGH the peace of religion - moot, yes - but true.

REALITY - among 19,000+ volunteers, even those not in Chaplaincy, who volunteers WITHOUT a religious motive?

PROOF - MORE than ten thousand volumes in every major faith in the last millennia - but the most important PROOF is in the FAITH of every Texas Citizen, 17,000+ RELIGIOUS Volunteers, the faith of EVERY Staff member and even the faith of EVERY honorable Legislator - without question:

Religion is the GREATEST source
of Change in Human History

Let's have the BEST Chaplaincy, not zero!

It is GOOD that prisoners have a safe place
to shed TEARS over the death of family.

Imagine - who will care for the death notifications?
In many ways Chaplains want NO program cut.
But for us, it is about the TEARS and how care is given
in the most vulnerable times - for all.

People will continue to DIE!

FACT - Most Notifications are by STAFF Chaplains
as only a FEW of the several hundred Vol. Chaplains can be there every day - death is respects no schedules

Chaplain Michael Maness said, "I empty a box of tissue
EVERY month from the tears of prisoners, for 18 years."

The Independent Sectorvalued a volunteer’s time at $23 per hour in 2015.  With 560,261 volunteer hours reported in 2012, that is over $13.4 million for one year. Therefore, upon facilitation of volunteers alone, chaplaincy recovers its entire operating costs over three times! Some volunteers are worth much more

In early January 2011, we found out that the entire chaplaincy service was zero budgeted, ended, over, entirely cut out of the Texas budget.  We rallied as many as we could to contact as many legislators as we could.  And we saved Texas prison chaplaincy.

It was a hard fight and a stupendous victory.

Chaplains facilitate the greatest resource for change in human history--religion.  And co-labor with volunteers who came to our aid ... thankfully.

This is our story.  May it never happen again.

If it does, here is how we fought, the data and fliers we used, and how we networked.

God blessed Texas.
